ABBYY have announced the release of ABBYY Tutor 2.0, an application for vocabulary building for Microsoft Windows Mobile devices. The latest version is specifically designed for Russian-speaking users to help them memorize English words easily.

The new mobile application is a useful tool for people with different levels of proficiency in English, and also for those who need help expanding their vocabulary in specific subject areas.  It combines methods of learning new words and phrases with electronic dictionaries developed on the basis of ABBYY Lingvo x3. The application contains 5,000 commonly-used which have been arranged according to the frequency of their use. Subject dictionaries for popular topics, such as work, travel, restaurant, shopping and weather, are also included. Individual dictionaries can be created by adding new words from the Lingvo dictionary base or other sources.
ABBYY Tutor 2.0 also includes four exercises for memorizing and revision of foreign words and phrases. The application offers a test which helps users determine their language proficiency level. Correspondingly, words from the specified level are suggested, skipping vocabulary from lower levels. The “Examination” function memorizes words that have been spelled wrong by the user for revision and consolidation. “This is a unique application — it lets you automatically specify the complexity level before learning. This makes it a useful tool for people with different levels of language proficiency,” said Katya Solntseva, director of Mobile Products Department at ABBYY.
