ABBYY has released a new professional tool for aligning parallel texts in different languages and creating Translation Memory (TM) databases, the ABBYY Aligner. The program finds matching segments in the source and the translated texts and saves the results in the TM database for use in Computer Assisted Translation (CAT) tools.

It increases the quality of translation services and reduces their cost. ABBYY Aligner is a useful tool for translators, corporate users, language service providers and other specialists involved in translation management.
Nowadays an increasing number of people prefer to use previously translated materials creating databases, as this saves a lot of time and effort. ABBYY Aligner ensures quick work with parallel texts by delivering comprehensive editing tools and batch processing mode for multiple documents of up to 10 MB each. The program offers an embedded database of rules for dividing text to sentences where users can add their own list of abbreviations. Once having aligned parallel texts, the program highlights any possible errors thus allowing quick checking of the results. It also allows splitting, merging and moving text segments and manual segment matching for easier editing.
The application can align texts in 10 widely-used languages (English, German, French, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, and Ukrainian). The resulting texts can be saved in RTF or TMX format which are supported by CAT tools. ABBYY Aligner supports files in TXT, RTF, PDF, HTML and documents created in MS Office applications (DOC, DOCX, PPT, PPTX, PPS, PPSX, XLS and XLSX). It also allows pasting text from the Clipboard.
ABBYY Aligner is also available online. The Web service is designed for obtaining quick results and is suitable for small parallel texts. It allows online export of up to 50 rows of the aligned text into RTF or TM databases.
