ABBYY, the provider of document recognition, capture and linguistic technologies, has released ABBYY Cloud OCR SDK, an online service providing a Web API that allows the integration of ABBYY recognition technologies.

ABBYY Cloud OCR SDK allows developers to leverage optical character recognition (OCR), intelligent character recognition (ICR), barcode recognition, and PDF conversion technologies for creating their applications. ABBY offers a flexible, pay-as-you-go pricing model which enables developers to tie expenses to their monthly revenue.

ABBYY Cloud OCR SDK is available via a Web API supporting a wide range of operating systems, including mobile. Technology updates are provided automatically. The SDK recognizes 198 languages in printed text, and 113 hand-printed languages and checkmarks. The product features recognition tools such as business card recognition and barcode recognition APIs.

With the SDK developers can integrate a service with their applications to scale up and down to meet the requirements of end users. It leverages MS Windows Azure to host OCR processing functionality and enables flexible development through availability of programming code samples for .NET, PHP, Ruby, cURL, Python, Java, and ASP.NET, as well as support for the Apple iOS, Google Android and Windows Phone mobile OS, at no additional charge.

“We have been working with beta developers for several months now and are very encouraged by the feedback we have received,” said Andrey Isaev, director of technology products department at ABBYY. “Our new Cloud OCR SDK makes it simple for developers to get their applications up-and-running quickly, and better differentiate their products by offering a cloud option.”
