Nuance’s Mobile Developer Program is expanding to Australia. The Dragon Mobile software development kit now features support for Australian English.

The Mobile Developer Program allows developers of mobile applications for iOS and Android to enhance their software with voice recognition technology via the self-service website. The SDK delivers dictation and voice search capabilities which are found in the Dragon Apps, as well as text-to-speech (TTS) recognition.

The Nuance Mobile Developer Program, which was first launched in the US, now spreads across EMEA, China and Australia, and has signed more than 3,000 developers. The program has launched a variety of apps for iOS and Android, including Siri, Price Check, Ask, Merriam-Webster, Dictionary.com, Yellow Pages, iTranslate and many more.

The Dragon Mobile SDK is now available for Apple iOS 4.0 (iPhone/iPad/iPod touch) as well as other devices running Android 2.1 and higher. The SDK supports German, Mandarin Chinese, European Spanish, US and UK English, European French, Italian, Japanese and now Australian English for dictation and search. TTS recognition is supported for more than 35 languages. “The success of the Nuance Mobile Developer Program has proven that developers and their consumers love the ability to quickly and easily interface with applications via voice,” said Jason Stirling, senior vice president Asia Pacific, Nuance. “The expansion into Australia is very exciting for local developers given the depth of talent that exists in this part of the world and high smartphone penetration in the domestic market. The Nuance Mobile Developer Program provides Australian developers with an opportunity to leverage advanced speech technology in support of their own innovation and global ambition.”
