Accusoft Pegasus, the provider of imaging software development kits (SDKs), has announced AIMTools, a new SDK for iOS and Android devices.

With AIMTools, software developers can create mobile apps to view 12-bit grayscale images. They also gain better control over the output of image data than by the mobile JPEG library.

The AIMTools Lossy JPEG decompress library allows developers to work with all data in the 12-bit image and no longer requires them to convert to an 8-bit image for display, as it was until now. This is a significant improvement, since the conversion results in image data loss before the image gets to the mobile device.

With the new SDK, users can view 12-bit grayscale images on the iPhone, iPad, and Android enabled devices. It allows contrast data and image brightness to be more accurately adjusted by using the window level data at decompress time to map the correct 12-bit data to an 8-bit image displayed.

AIMTools provides better control over lossy JPEG decompress output. Software developers can output directly to a thumbnail on decompress. They can also decompress a specific crop rectangle of the image. Color support is available for RGB and CMYK JPEG decompression on mobile devices.
