Nuance Communications, Inc. has closed the acquisition of Transcend Services, Inc., a provider of medical transcription and clinical documentation services to the healthcare industry.

The combination of Transcend and Nuance will improve the ways patient data is captured, processed and used. The targeted market are small- to mid-size hospitals, which comprises about 90 percent of hospitals in the United States. Nuance will build upon Transcend’s existing market in this group of hospitals, and expand the customer base by delivering voice-enabled solutions that feature Clinical Language Understanding (CLU) technology to allow healthcare organizations of all sizes to achieve Meaningful Use and speed up the transition to ICD-10.

The two companies combined offering will help the chief financial officers of healthcare organizations to reduce the costs associated with administration and management of clinical documentation and medical transcription processes.
