ABBYY, the provider of document recognition, capture, and linguistic technologies, is partnering with the National Forest Foundation (NFF). ABBYY will donate to the NFF's tree-planting program with every trial download of ABBYY FineReader 11, as a part of the effort to restore National Forests and Grasslands.

ABBYY and the NFF will help restore Idaho's Nez Perce National Forest and the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area. These forested areas were damaged from natural disasters and wildfires.

"America's National Forests and grasslands play a critical role in the overall health of the environment and our communities, as they produce the clean air and water that citizens and wildlife need," said Greg Peters, development program coordinator, National Forest Foundation. "Through partnerships with corporations such as ABBYY, the NFF is revitalizing America's forests and improving the future for generations of Americans."

For the last 20 years ABBYY has provided products and services which help to decrease the consumption of paper. ABBYY's FineReader 11 is a solution for optical character recognition (OCR) designed to limit the use of paper by enabling people to convert paper documents and photos into editable electronic formats. Together with the NFF, ABBYY will be promoting the importance of conserving paper throughout the month of April.

For each trial download of ABBYY FineReader 11, the NFF will plant ponderosa pine and western larch trees in the Nez Perce National Forest and Hells Canyon National Recreation Area. Both were decimated by Idaho's Poe Cabin Fire in 2007.
"ABBYY USA supports and shares the National Forest Foundation's goal of healthy forests and grasslands," said Dean Tang, CEO of ABBYY, USA. "We look forward to a long-lasting partnership with the National Forest Foundation as their commitment aligns with ABBYY's vision to move consumers toward a paperless environment."
