Pegasus Imaging Corporation, provider of digital imaging technology, has announced that it has acquired Tasman Software (Leeds, UK), including its barcode software development kit (SDK).
The recent acquisition has enriched Pegasus Imaging’s range of document imaging products with Java and Java ME mobile barcode technology. “Tasman is the second acquisition we’ve completed in less than 30 days since the AccuSoft deal. In this economy, financially sound companies have opportunities,” says Jack Berlin, president of Pegasus Imaging. “Tasman offers great tools for barcode reading, and we provide the corporate structure to support software developers and integrators. Our customers will benefit from Pegasus’ strong support and ongoing investment in product improvements.”

Tasman Software has supplied barcode technology to organizations such as Apple, Adobe, Atalasoft, and Lexmark. As the terms of these partnerships were not in accordance with Pegasus licensing and support policies, the company will terminate all of them. Pegasus will be negotiating new support and licensing contracts with the Tasman customers.

Pegasus Imaging will use Tasman technology to improve its barcode offerings. Pegasus Imaging supplies ActiveX and .NET toolkits used for barcode recognition for Windows operating systems. After acquiring the Tasman Java Barcode Reader SDKs, Pegasus will be able to offer barcode recognition for a broader range of platforms, including Linux, Unix, and Mac systems, as well as mobile devices such as cell phones and PDAs.
